If you haven't seen it in person, go check it out. The asymmetry really bothered me at first, but It really does grow on you. Sure it's not a duc/mv/aprilia, but I want one. It's unique looking, brings a lot of options to the table, and hauls ass. Style is never gonna go over with everyone with any bike, but it really does look nice in my opinion in person. I actually like the motosports color the least. The black and the green options are amazing.

there are some petty cool youtube videos of the bike:

one of the big wigs talking about the styling:

off topic, but Brooks, how does the rsv4 ride?

I personally think that the asymmetry is for shock appeal, to set the bike apart from the rest, regardless of what the designer guy said.

It's funny, he explained that they saved 300 grams by using a smaller light on the right side, yet they chose to put "gills" on the right side (more plastic) instead of a large open hole on the left side (that exhausts heat). So, shouldn't they have tried to save weight on the right too!?

He says that right after explaining that they use asymmetry on the bike for technical reasons...

I should say that I like the bike and it's about damn time BMW came out with a bike like this. I think it's a good time to be a motorcycle rider, you really can't go wrong with any bike you choose.

I haven't gotten any saddle time on mine to be able to make any large assumptions.

But, being the first bike I have ridden since my last one and my re-deployment, I can't tell good things are on their way

+1,000,000

That is a very honest and genuine statement dimbaratto

Bikes are bikes, enjoy what you can. You only live once, or so they say!

Yeah, it would seem like the "logical" thing to do, but they would not be practical, as there is not that much ice on the ground for the studs to even stick.

It's more like concrete with a nice layer of ice, just enough to make you car's wheel spin. The ground isn't that bad out here.

Then imagine what my garage would be like trying to roll that studded bike into it

Brooks,

You get those ice tires and run out on the Ice Track. I was on it in Dec 89. It was exceptionally warm and we broke through. What a hassle!

Don't go terrorizing the local POs, though. I have a good friend who is one of Fairbank's finest.

so i rode it this morning. its nice for sure. for me the strongest aspect of the bike was the suspension and the geometry. it felt like my ohlins shod r6. the bike felt planted and very precisely balanced. it fell into turns without much convincing. to put it into perspective, i now want to upgrade the suspension and triple clamps on my base 1198, because it just does not compare.

as for the power, it definitely is a strong engine (i mean its got 192 horses), but it is still an i-4. i will take the 1198 power and torque over it for street riding any day.

as for all the other high tech stuff, i didn't really feel any of it during my short relatively tame run. i suspect most of it is for track use anyway, except maybe the abs. and frankly, i prefer to be in control of the bike, or out of control, depending on how you look at it. i'm sure it could reduce lap times, but thats for the racers.

if i was in the market for an i-4, i would get this bike.

Thanks for the write up. Since my wife's car was in an accident and she's been using mine, I've been using my 1198 for commuting. And short of the riding position (which is fine with me), I think it's hard to beat the power delivery and light steering.

As for the S1000RR, I think the full horsepower is reigned in during the first 3 gears.

I agree....the S1000RR is nice looking, and it puts out good dyno numbers. There were two S1000RR's that put out 170+ wheel horsepower numbers yesterday at Cycle Mall.
