Saturday Night Brawl: Naruto vs Bleach vs Avatar

So I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but there seems to be something of a competition going on to see who will dominate the 12:00A time slot.

  • DXD is running back to back Naruto episodes.
  • [as] is running Bleach and Kekkaishi episodes.
  • TN is running back to back Avatar episodes.
I'm curious if anyone has stats who's actually winning this little ratings scrimmage.

I would assume that Bleach on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim would win the battle because Adult Swim has a good following and is available in more homes, but I would personally cheer for Naruto even though Disney XD probably produces the least ammount of ratings out of the three networks. If Naruto was on standard Disney and if Nick put Avatar back on their core network then I'm sure the ratings would be completely different, I really wish Naruto Shippuden was on core Disney just for the fact that it could/would reach a wider audience.

Why would you even question if Bleach was winning the time slot? Kekkaishi is probably beating Naruto and Avatar as well. Adult Swim gets a lot more coverage than DXD and Nicktoons and that's really all there is to it.

Bleach is doing pretty well with 18-34 lately and it's probably doing even better with the kids that might otherwise be watching Naruto Shippuden or Avatar. Bleach and Kekkaishi would easily be winning the 18-34 and total viewer ratings as well.

I'm not so sure about that.

Avatar is obviously in perma reruns till the new series comes out next year.

Nurato Shippudin is running with the the current week's episode and and the previous week's episode.

Honestly, I am starting to think DXD has the right formula going for Saturday nights right now. [as] has been having a heck of a problem finding profit in running anime on Saturdays to the point that their block looks pretty sad these days. The last time I saw stats, their Saturday Night comedies that are reruns and run throughout the rest of the week are coming in higher then their original / new premier animes.

I think DXD making use animation that premiers earlier in the week AND running classic animation that is related to their current animation seems like a good formula. I haven't seen any stats, but frankly, I find myself more wanting to watch DXD on Saturday compared to [as].

I'm curious who else finds themselves in the same boat and if it makes up a majority.

I don't particularly care for any of the anime on AS Saturday other than FMA: Brotherhood and some of the reruns in the late hours which I don't bother watching and would also more likely be watching DXD in those hours as well.

However, anime premieres are doing pretty well on Saturday AS lately. Bleach holds it own nearly every week it has a premiere and Kekkaishi and FMA:B have shown up on the top 3 on occasion. American Dad is winning Saturday night with it's hour block at 11PM but King of the Hill's airings haven't made the top 3 in a while now. Quality aside, I do believe the ratings for Saturday AS anime are pretty darn good in the recent months. Where as every comedy other than Boondocks and American Dad seems to flop when they try them on Saturday night.

Ratings wise, it would be pretty freak'n sad if ASA anime couldn't beat shows on Nicktoons and DXD with kids and teens much less adults. Neither network has the coverage Adult Swim does and that alone would give ASA a distinct advantage over both regardless of what's airing on them.

Just because something is "better" and has a better "formula" does not mean that it's going to beat any kind of competition, especially when it's not available in nearly as many homes as it's largest competitor. CN's Adult Swim will continue to do well on Saturday nights and Disney XD and Nicktoons or TeenNick will continue to fall short in the ratings when airing anime or action cartoons versus the AS Saturday night anime lineup, it's just the way it is.
