Sandy brings a traffic light, AVR brings the control electronics

When hurricane Sandy blew through [Leonidas]‘ town, it left a surprise that would be perfect for sprucing up any dorm room. It was a traffic light, torn from its place above an intersection. Not one to say, call the city and tell them where their light is, [Leonidas] decided to build a controller for this traffic light and enthrone it in its rightful place in the corner of his dorm.
Like most newer traffic lights, [Leonidas]‘ new toy used LED lights instead of normal incandescents, but was powered by normal mains AC making powering each light a breeze. After building a small relay control circuit from an ATMega328 and a few transistors, [Leonidas] had a working traffic light in his dorm.
You can grab the code from [Leonidas]‘ git. It doesn’t take up much space on the ATMega, leaving plenty of room should he ever want to enable Bluetooth, WiFi, or Ethernet control. Not a bad project for something that just blew in one day.
