Sandisk MobileMate SD+ card reader won't mount on Macbook desktop?

hello. if you are a mac guru or computer savvy i need your help desperately. i have a Sandisk MobileMate SD+ 5-in-1 card reader that sticks into the USB port and has two slots for the SD card or the micro SD card. it has an LED on the end of the stick that lights up green when it's plugged into the computer. i've had my macbook about 2 years, it uses MAC OS X v 10.5.8 and i used to use this card reader on my macbook all the time. all of a sudden it doesn't mount on my desktop anymore when i plug it in, although the LED still lights up green to say that it's in use. when i look under Disk Utility as if i want to restore it, it shows up in there as the name of the card but will not pop up on the desktop at all. there is no way to open the card file to extract anything or upload anything to the card and i don't understand what to do now. i can't find any drivers for it for a mac. can someone help if you know what might be wrong?
