samsung rant 2 year contract?

I want to buy the samsung rant but what does it mean by a 2 year contract?? and if i just get the phone its 299 but if i get the contract its only $49 so does that mean i have to pay 49 dollars a month??? sorry im like 14 and my parenbts wont buy me it because they only want to get me a phone were u buy minutes for it and i hate those.
 
A two year contract means you must stay with Sprint for 2 years, or be charged an early termination fee ( which is a few hundred dollars!). But, by signing to a two year contract they will only charge you $50 for the phone. I'm not entirely sure you can even get your own contract at that age, and if you can you'll be paying another few hundred dollars in a security deposit because of your lack of a credit history.
