Samsung Omnia and Verizon

I would like to get a Samsung Omnia from Verizon. But they want to charge an extra $45/mo "Data Plan". Can I buy an unlocked Samsung Omnia and then put a Verizon SIM card from another phone? Will Verizon find some way to charge me?

Thanks,

You don't have to get the $45 plan. They have a $29.99 plan. That said, VZW doesn't use SIM cards (save for their world phones) and their phones have to be activated.

the verizon rep told me that would have to get the $45 plan because I wanted to sync my corp. email using a wired connection. I am aware of the $30 plan but I am looking for a way to get a NO data plan. I will not be using the verizion network for any data, only phone.:flamemad:

Then you'd have to switch to another provider. VZW has a strict policy on this: all smartphones (including Blackberry devices) require a data plan--no exceptions. If you were with AT&T or T-Mobile, for example, you could just pop in a SIM card and go, with no need to contact AT&T/T-Mobile.
