Samsung Electronics America has announced the upcoming North American availability of the 13.3 inch ATIV Book 9 Plus and the 10.1 inch ATIV Tab 3 tablet. The notebook will actually be offered up for pre-purchase at $1,399.99 starting August 18, whereas the tablet will be available in stores starting September 1 for $699.99. Both will be based on Microsoft's Windows 8 platform.
According to the ATIV Book 9 Plus specs, the device will have a 13.3 inch LED-lit LCD screen with a massive resolution of 3200 x 1800, 10-point touch input, 350 nit SuperBright technology, and Gorilla Glass protection. Powering this screen will be an Intel Core i5-4200U processor clocked up to 1.6 GHz, Intel HD Graphics 4400, and 4 GB of DDR3 memory. The laptop's battery promises up to 7.5 hours on a single charge.
"The panel also tilts back up to 180-degrees, so you can change or share your perspective with just a touch of your finger," the company said on Friday. "Additionally, the display locks at approximately 110-degrees to ensure a comfortable touch experience without wobbling."
As for other features, the laptop will have a built-in 720p webcam, a 128 GB SSD, a 3-in-1 card slot, two USB 3.0 ports, a headphone/microphone combo, miniVGA output and microHDMI output. The laptop will weigh a mere 3.06 pounds, measure just 0.54 inches thick, and arrive in Mineral Ash Black. It will also supposedly have a boot up time up to 5.9 seconds and a wake time up to 0.9 seconds.
Moving on to the ATIV Tab 3 tablet, it will have a 10.1 inch LED-lit screen with a 1366 x 768 resolution, 400 nit SuperBright Touch technology, 5-point touch input, and support for Samsung's S Pen. Powering this tablet will be an Intel Atom Z2760 SoC clocked up to 1.8 GHz, Intel GMA graphics, 2 GB of DDR2 memory, and a battery promising up to 7 hours on a single charge.
"A tablet with the power of a PC, the ATIV Tab 3 makes personal computing more stylish, mobile and productive than ever," the company said. "It is the perfect companion device for travel as well as everyday use at work and home. It comes with a Bluetooth keyboard that functions as a cover and kickstand for protection and ease-of-use."
Other tablet features will include 64 GB of internal storage, a headphone/microphone combo, a microUSB 2.0 port, microHDMI output, a 720p camera on the front and a 2MP camera on the back. It will weigh 1.28 pounds, measure just 0.31 inches thin, and comes only in white. The tablet will also come preloaded with Office Home & Student, S Note and S Memo applications.
Samsung said that both devices will support SideSync, which allows users to seamlessly switch from working on their laptop or tablet to their Galaxy-based smartphone by connecting via USB or Wi-Fi. Applications include responding to a text on a mobile phone from the PC keyboard, viewing maps and more from their phone on their PC screen, making edits to files on their phone via their ATIV PC, and even dragging and dropping files from one unit to another.
