Most providers check phone type/firmware-version, before you can access certain services or download phone-specific files via internet directly from your phone.
When you update your firmware to (newer) un-branded version (like the newest F480XEHJ1 for example), it may be that your provider doesn't recognize your phone correctly, means you can't use these services/downloads anymore.
The following describes how you can change the "User-Agent" string in your mobile browser, telling your provider you have a branded/original firmware:
- enter service-menu ("Dial" -> *#6984125*#),
- go to "Internals" (Master-Key *#9072641*#),
- enter "Protocol-Settings" -> "UAgent",
- change the saved string (= User-Agent) to the following:
string with un-branded FW (for ex.): SAMSUNG-SGH-F480/F480XEHJ1 [...]
modified string for Vodafone-branded FW: SAMSUNG-SGH-F480-Vodafone/F480AUHG2 [...]
dont' change the rest of the string!!
Then, select "Save", and exit service-menu.
The example above is for the Vodafone-branded Firmware from A1/Austria.
Now your mobile browser identifies your phone as a branded-type, which means you can use those specific services/dowloads of your provider again.
These changes you can use for other providers as well, just enter the correct "branding-string", like "-Vodafone" i.e.
To show how your mobile browser identfies itself, enter the following address directly into your phone's browser:
