Samsung Captivate how to access internet?

I just got my Samsung Captivate Galaxy s a few hours ago, and i cant connect to 3g OR wifi.
i have wifi all through my house.
side note...this is the first phone ive had that is SUPPOSED to have internet. its our first data plan.
also i cant receive multimedia texts

pleeease help me
