Samsung Acclaim locks up almost all the time?

Hi there.

I have a Samsung Acclaim, and my service provider is US Cellular. When I first got the phone, although it was hard to understand at first, I loved how quickly it worked!

Now, about 6 months later, I have maybe 15 applications I got on the Market, and the phone locks up almost constantly, even with removing all but 5 applications.

I mean, someone can call me, and I will see it ring, but I try to answer and it doesn't. Or, if I get a call and try to call someone right back, I might have to wait 2 minutes until it unlocks to dial out.

US Cellular says the new froyo update might help it, but at least I'm on the belief plan and can exchange out for another phone if need be.

But, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this experience, and what they did to correct it (the store I need to take it to for tech help is 40 miles away!) or if this phone might just be defective?
