I have a fresh water aquirim with fresh water fish but i have herd that adding sea salt for fish into the water can keep amonia levels down

It is not recommended to add salt to Fresh water fish. Only salt water fish like salt.

It depends on what kind of fish you have. Platies and mollies like some salt in the water but it isn't good for scaleless fish like catfish or for live plants.

Yea that is true normally about a tea spoon of salt per 3 gallons

Fresh water fish are fresh water fish for a reason. Don't add salt.
