Salesman made me walk away...

So.....I walked into my dealer knowing what I wanted....

I am new here (hello) but I have owned 5 Harley's since 95' so I am not new to the game.

I told the salesman that I wanted to buy a 2011 Street Glide with the 103" option in Denim Black. He said, "great" he checked his inventory and after learning that a Denim Black wouldn't come in until late November he proceeded to try to sell me Vivid Black. Nothing against Vivid Black but I clearly knew what I wanted. He did a long pitch on how Harley hasn't yet "admitted" all the problems with the Denim Black and how I wouldn't be happy with the color and that it will turn gray in less than a year. He said that Harley wont warranty the color and that they made a HUGE mistake and that he cant sell anything denim.

I was put off by his lame/see-thru pitch that I walked away. He coulda easily taken my deposit but almost made me question my decision to the point that I was put-off.

These are tough times for all......bikes are a luxury and I was shocked that he tried to make an immediate sale over deferring a definite sale?!?!?!

Just wanted to vent.....sorry.

I like Denim Black....it's not for everyone but I like it!
 
I guess he was just trying to make a quick sale...or is there any validity to his statements about the denim? I don't know, but I think the vivid black is the way to go. Have you checked some of the other dealerships in your area? Good luck.
 
There are several dealerships around me....I have some feelers out.

I'm sure there is some validity to his statements....Denim Black is a bit less forgiving that gloss paint.....cant buff out scratches...but I like the look. Reminds me of a good ole' primer sprayed 69 SS Camaro
 
When I was a kid working in a bicycle store, a customer came in wanting a size and color of bike that we didn't have in stock. I offered to special order it.
Afterward the manager came up to me and said "son, sell what you've got." He explained the store had a lot of money invested in inventory and they needed to sell it to remain profitable.
All that makes sense, and nothing wrong with trying to gently persuade you to change your mind. But a good salesman should also be able to read the customer, and offer to order whatever you want if that's what you're set on.
BTW, I like that color too. It may not hold up as well as others, but it'll have it's own character, like a well worn pair of jeans.
 
Well, actually , what is the track record for the denim finsihes? Usually soft finishes are hard to clean, etc . But they have been out there for a while now, so how do they hold up ?
 
You wanted the Black Denim and I don't blame you one bit. It's a very good choice. Your bike will come along soon enough. Mine did.
