So, basically, I have a debate coming up on the Safehaven Laws. Personally, I am all for them. Its better for a child to have a chance of being adopted rather than being left in a dumpster. Anyway, I was lucky enough to be given the position of being AGAINST Safehavens. So, my group and I were doing some research, and arent quite sure of some points we could be able to argue. The following points I have come up with, but need further elaboration. If you have any ideas or any links with the helpful information, or just any opinions id love to hear them.

Points:
1)Child Abandonment Syndrom-Leads to murderer, etc etc?
2)Waste of state funds advertising a service in which barely any babies are saved.
3)Babies still found in dumpsters, in public areas, areas other than safehavens.
4)Just another means in which the parent has less responsibility to the child.
5)Lack of medical records can lead to spread of disease.
6)Physical and Emotional trauma to child.

Any opinions?

The only way you'll win is to make the argument that the current laws are not properly funded and do not go far enough . . . concede the idea but argue the technicalities . . . For instance, current laws allow "drop off" at only designated locations . . . you could argue that the law is ineffective until any adult of majority is able to take temporary responsibility of the child. Nothing you've described will win . . . your going to have to make a technical argument . . . i.e., feasibility, funding, efficiency, and accountability . . . agree to the idea of safe haven but instead of arguing that it's not a good idea . . . agree that it is a good idea that is ill served by legal requirements, funding, logistics . . . etc.
