Saddle bag lids bumping tour pack

I traded my '07 FLHX in for a '10.
I had the dealer put new 4 point mounting brackets on it.

Last night I left my bike and the old tour pack at the last night so he could change out the old mounting bracket on the bottom of the tour pack with the new one...
(that isn't as easy as one would think either)

He needed to see it on the bike so he would know where to set the mounting brackets.

Anyway, I picked up the bike tonight, and I noticed the saddle bag lids will bump the bottom of the tour pack when I open them if I am not careful.
This didn't happen on the old bike.

When I asked the tech, he said it is happening witht the new Ultras too.

Does anybody have any experience with this issue either way?

Thanks,
Dave

Happens on my 09 FLHX when I have the sissy bar on. Now Ive got two matching nicks on the inside of the lids, Is it to much to ask that they check this crap out when they design it?

If I remember right, there are little rubber bumpers on the bottom of my tour pack that I assumed were to prevent any damage to the saddle bag lids in the event that they did make contact. I don't think I've had any issues with mine hitting the tour pack but I do have the Milwaukee bagger mount for it.

I just added a tourpack to my 09 FLHX and it has those little rubber bumpers.

You should buy them and drill holes in the bottom of your tourpack and install them. It would be a Very Easy job and you could get measurements for where to drill them on one of the bikes at the dealer.

Just a suggestion.

Differences in mounting brackets and tour pak bottoms aside, why not take a measurement of the bottom of the tour pak relative to the top of the saddlebag lid with the '09 and newer detachable rack. Perhaps we can get some measurements for the rigid mount on the Classic or Ultra for '09 and newer and compare them--does the detachable rack result in the tour pak being lower than with the rigid mount. The same comparision could be done for pre-09 detachable and ridgid mount tour paks.

As for the OP, guys with '-06 and newer rigid mount tour paks could hit the bottom edge of the tour pak with the saddlebag lid, so just exercise caution.

PS: As for the poster with the detachable hardware nicking the lid, that is not unheard of according to the techs at my local dealership and the fix is to add a washer or two to the saddlebag bracket mounting brackets to cause the upper portion of the saddlebag lid to be moved away from the mounting hardware.
