Hello,

I have had a problem for the last several years that has gotten worse as time goes by. I thought it was restless leg syndrome, but the symptoms don't quite match. Here's a detailed discription:

When very tired/fatigued and laying down in bed I get a very irritating tickle, directly in my lower back in the sacral area. It does not run down my legs. In fact, I do not feel it in my legs. It's in either the left side of the area or the right, or sometimes, nightmarishly in both. The sensation is concentrated in a very small area, about the size of my fist. It starts small, but gets intense very rapidly. The only thing that stops it is moving my legs, intentionally, or jerking them suddenly, and it doesn't last long. Sometimes, if I get in a ridiculous position, I may find relief. It's only when tired, ready to sleep. I have tried prescription sleep aides, only to discover that my girlfriend says I keep her up all night twitching and kicking in my sleep. The sensation is a deep tickle, not a tingle. It's like a feather is tickling inside my lower back. I have no other back problems at all. I had a CT scan from an accident, but it showed no injury, old or new. If I get up and move around, like walk for a half hour, it lasts about a half hour. This is driving me nuts. It isn't every night, but close to it.

If anyone has ever heard of this malady, please, let me know. I tried searches but haven't found anything.

It does sound like restless leg to some degree but also sounRAB like a nerve that is possibly being compressed. Has anyone ordered an MRI?

I'm with Ms. Pepper! My husband has that feeling in his knees in the evening. His legs don't "hurt" as much as theu "bother" him. He does fall asleep and kicks up more than an English soccer team! He has no idea he is doing it but it shakes the whole bed!! If he wakes up he thinks he just has to use the bathroom-not the legs waking him up. He hasn't gotten anything from the doc for it and OTC drugs haven't helped.
Please get it checked so you don't have a nerve sompressed for a long time like I did and suffer permanent damage. Its not worth it.
Be Blessed,
Momzworkin:)

I'm due at the doc's for a lower spine workup next month. Hopefully they will discover what's going on. When I find out, I'll let everyone know what it is and what they did.

The doctors I talked to about this over the years have wanted it to be RLS, but the symptoms didn't match exactly. One doc wanted to prescribe ReQuip for it, but the cost was insane.

Thanks for all your replies.

I have searched and searched for help with this. My Rheumatologist had no idea. I do have restless leg syndrome - maybe it is a part of it. Mine is almost constant - drives me nuts. I wish I could take a wire brush to my back, but I know it's too deep and can't be scratched. It was off and on for awhile and for the past two weeks, almost constant. Bengay takes the edge off a little. If anyone finRAB treatment for it, please post! I was reading requip's side effects and they seem worse than what they're treating!
