I have seen a couple apps floating around to add voice mail to your phone with out using your providers. Do they work good enough to use them exclusively? Seems like a good way to save monthly voicemail charges.

Anyone? Seach still giving me nothing, safe to assume they dont work?

Look for Advanced Call Manager, I believe it's called. I think it has an independent voicemail feature, though I could be wrong.

Be aware that some phones can't use them. I tried with my 6620 (a while back, I know, but worth mentioning) and found that the phone didn't allow media playback during a phone call, which is essentially what these apps do, they answer the call and then play your voicemail greeting like a media file.

I think it's dumb that some carriers don't provide voicemail.
