S2r800 vs hypermotard 1100 vs 848

I have two monsters and a Harley. Previously had a number of crotch-rockets. That said I've ridden the motard a few times and unless you plan on sustained speeds of 90mph+ the motard will be just fine. the S2R will not have the power of the 1100 which is why I upgraded my S2R to an S4R and gave the sibling to the wife. I've never been comfortable on sport bikes but the Monster is perfect for me.
 
I noticed you plan on city driving as well, and I have to point out that the 848 has the smoothest clutch, IMHO, since it's a wet clutch and the others are dry. That said, the 848 clutch still takes a while to warm up in traffic and start engaging smoothly. For about the first 15 minutes of riding, the clutch is grabby, after which it smooths out nicely. I've ridden my wife's 696 around in Boston a lot, and a dry clutch can be a pain in the summer in-town traffic here.
The Monster's generate tremendous heat under your right leg. The 848 puts it squarely under your a**, which is great in the winter and tolerable in the summer if you keep moving. For city traffic, I definitely prefer the 848. Seating doesn't bother me on my longer weekend rides, I typically ride 300+ miles on Sundays with non-lingering gas stops. I've gone 600, which will be easier to do again now I've got the suspension fixed. Handling-wise, the 848 comes with a laundry-list of fixes that are needed right out of the box. Ride-height front and rear needs to be raised to keep it from pushing the front end in turns, and the front and rear suspensions are bizarre so sprinkle some $ there, and then you need a steering dampener on top of that.
And it's awesome...
I notice you don't have the new Multistrada as a choice -- why? For commuting/city/touring, it strikes me as the best candidate for you.
 
The 848 once again sounds promising. I didnt add the multistrada to the list since we still dont have the new one around and the old one doesnt look too good to me.
 
Don't scratch off the 848 just yet.
I commute daily and also tour on an 848. For me, it's a lot more comfortable than my previous bike, a 2007 S2R 1000.
I've ridden with guys on Hypermotards and it seems the wide bars and hand-grips can cause some problems in heavy traffic.
Just test ride the 3 bikes and go with what's most comfortable and moves your soul.
My own personal opinion is that the 848 is in a different class to the 2 other bikes.
 
Before I bought the 848, had an '04 Aprilia Tuono, totally kitted and as good as it could be. But, after 250 miles, I needed to put my lower back on ice for a few hours. Upright, easy seating position, goes conventional wisdom, should be good touring -- but not right for my back. Plus the buffeting at anything over 80 was fatiguing.
I wanted a new bike, so I picked out the Streetfighter, the RSV and as a wildcard I threw in the 848. I knew the RSV was loved as a hypertourer in Europe, and with a tankbag, there's a lot to lounge on. But in spite of the bizarre suspension, I loved the 848. The motor especially, but the seating position was surprisingly pleasant.
Counter-intuitive seating: You know the showroom isn't the road at xx+ mph, but it's just not possible to know what it's going to be like without really riding the bike. On the 848, I keep my stomach tensed and actually put a bit of weight on the back hump of the tank (get a tank-protector). That keeps the weight off my wrists, keeps me steering with my butt/legs, and makes the 848 an all day rider. The wind will support your upper body.
 
Tours, Maybe give the decision a bit of time and look at the Multistroodle 1200. I've ridden the original and loved it but waned more motor. 6" of suspension and a cushy seat makes bumps disappear. The more upright seating position allows you to see traffic better as opposed to being hunched over as on a sbk.

The 1200 is supposed to be nuts with the 1198 engine. What they did to the MTS1200 is to change the cam overlap to 11 degrees as opposed to the 40 degrees on the sbk. This will make the engine run better at low speeds while not sacrificing the gorilla like torque that the 1200cc's bring to the game.
 
I just bought an 05 s2r800. Couldnt resist the price though work needs to be done on the bike. Its not as strong as the hyper, but if i can convince the wifey to let me have 2 bikes at a time, the 848 will be in my humble stable. Thanks guys!
