s 50 brake squeeeeeeel

I just purchased a 2007 s 50. Great machine for my use. The problem I am having is a persistant squeal in the front rotor/pad. Does anyone know how to correct the problem, or a better pad to install. I have read on another post that this is commom. HELP!!!!

Yup, common problem on the VS800. Keeping them clean will help, but the best way to fix it is to get some EBC brake pads (about $35), and when you install them put a drop of high-temp brake grease on the slider pins ($2), and replace the stock shims with SBS Brake Pad Shim Set #9500 (about $6).

On my '06 S50, I've experienced not only a front brake squeak, but also a front end squeak. I've experimented with a few products, but find that Pyroil has a couple of things that work very well: Brake Parts Cleaner and Penetrating Oil.

I had the same problem. I was told by a mechanic (also a MSF instructor and racer) that I probably should be doing more braking with the front brake. I've done that along with an occasional hard stop with the front brake and the squeal is significantly better.

That's good enough for now but for the long term solution I'm going to do DrBob's fix, probably this fall as part of my winterization.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciated quick responses. I'll try this advise and will respond back about the results. READY TO CRUISE!!!

I cleaned the pads and rotor. Drove and braked hard a few times, now no noise to be heard or my ears are deceiving me. Thanks for all the tips. Drive on two:):):):):):):

Go to the EBC FA103HH pads and it will stop the squeel. You will also stop faster. Just make shure that you put squeel lub between the pad and the shims and lube the riding surface on the pins. No more squeel and safer bike.
