Several years ago I was treated for Gerd-like symptoms with ACIPHEX. It was excellent.

Now being treated again, but I have a form of Medicare and Aciphex is no longer included. The only listing I can find that IS included is pantoprazole and it is considered a Tier 2 (meaning at least $114/3 mo for prescription).

Gastroenterologist said its ok for me to continue taking generic Prilosec (omerprazole), but I dont think its working good enough. I AM seeing the doctor for an endoscopy (ugh - but I will be sedated) on Tuesday -- meanwhile I'd like to know if you know of any other alternatives to Aciphex.

There are two other alternatives that just became available without a prescription:

-Prevacid: Just became available without a prescription, another one of the earlier PPIs that works well for lots of people.

-Zegerid: Really just omeprazole with sodium bicarbonate added, but the sodium bicarb seems to help make it more effective.

You might be best off trying one of those options before going the prescription route.

Protonix works well for some people. It might be worth a try. It worked for me for about 4 years before I had to switchto something else. If you are taking OTC meRAB, you might ask your doctor about dosages. OTC is usually about 1/2 dose of the prescription. It works for some, but not everyone.

Good luck with your endoscopy. I've had 3 in the last 4 years. I have "extremely severe" reflux and have been lucky that all of the EGD's have come back normal.
