Russian Animated "The Hobbit"

I don't know if this was ever discussed on these forums and I've searched using the keywords, Hobbit and couldn't find a thread. So, this is a thread discussing this short prologue to what would have been, Russia's adaptation of "The Hobbit"

The Link

All I can say is, that this is just amazing to look at. The Art is bright and colorful, and the animation so fluid in movement.

Apparently, this project was shut down because in the 90s Russia was starting to understand the concept of "Copyright Laws."

What do you fellas think of this?

Looks like a good effort to make The Hobbit.

That's a really good opening that makes me feel like I'm about to see an epic tale. Too bad it stops there.

It has a very good fairy tale vibe (or is that a dwarf and elf and hobbit tale vibe.)

I expect the Rankin/Bass version will always be my favorite though. You can find the talkback for that one hidden away on the Cartoon Network forum.

I'm dreading the Peter Jackson movie. I'd rather have seen this made.

Peter Jackson better remember that it is a children's book he's adapting a fantasy no less. This adaptation has fantasy written all over it and definitely speaks true to Tolkien's vision from what I've seen. (Thorin does seem a tad young but that's somewhat alright.)

With all that chaos in the early 90s, i'd say advancing copyright laws were probably one of the most minor-est threats to this ptoject and crew.

Nothing really special.

Kissing dwarfes? O-o-o-okay.

A) The vid didn't say anything else so that's all we have to say.

B) They were drunk; everything happens when you're drunk.
