Rush Hour movies vs Shanghai movies (Noon/Nights) - preference?

Having seen Shaghai Noon, I had absolutely no desire to see Shanghai Knights. I really didn't like it at all. That said I found the Rush Hour films (well 1 & 2 - haven't seen 3 yet), a lot better. The storylines were much better, the action scenes were choreographed a lot better, and I think Chris Tucker was a better opoosite to Jackie Chan, than Owen Wilson. On the whole, I just found the Rush Hour films offered a lot more.

Rush Hours

Shanghai Knights was really below average, though I love Shanghai Noon, Knights really put a downer on the series for me.

So Yeah my vote goes for Rush Hours.

BTW Martial Law was a fantastic show, Sammo Hung was brilliant.

for me it has to be the Shanghai movies and i wish they would do a third one. they have way more ideas where as the rush hour films are pretty generic 'buddy buddy' action movies (e.g lethal weapon, bad boys, etc) where the only gimmick for the sequels is that the location is different. I also find Chris Tucker annoying and overrated (not to mention overpaid) where as Owen Wilson fits the role perfectly and is a lot funnier.

What annoys me the most is that the director, Brett Ratner, takes the rush hour films so seriously...i mean he turned down the chance to direct a trilogy of Superman films so that he could make Rush Hour 3. I also read a few years ago that he wanted to make rush hour 3 and 4 back to back (like the matrix sequels) .....and i'm thinking the first two were fun but they arent that good.

They are going to do a 3rd one, as long as Owen is ok and goes back to acting and all that anyway... I read on a Wilson fan forum that Chan has been quoted saying his next big US film will be the 3rd in the series of Shanghai movies called 'Shanghai Dawn' I believe... though with whats happened with Owen, I don't know if it will be going ahead for sure or what... I THINK I read that it was going to be filmed next year(?) something like that.

I think the Shanghai films are slightly funnier and I'm also not so keen on Tucker, he's a bit OTT (over the top) really, a bit too loud mouthed really... though the first film was quite good and the 2nd one was ok, I wasn't so impressed with the 3rd... I don't think I'd bother going to see the 4th, might rent it on DVD at the most I reckon...

I would definitely say the Rush Hour films... however, if asked to compare any Rush Hour flick to say any of Chan's first three Police Story films in regarRAB to the fight choreography and action sequences/stunts, No Rush Hour film comes close, not even a little.

The helicopter sequence alone in Police Story 3/Supercop makes any stunt sequence in a Rush Hour film look like child's play in comparison.

No wires,
No safety harness,
No protection,
No CGI,
Nothing.

It amazes me even to this day.

Rush Hours for me.

As someone said, Shanghai Noon was great but Shanghai Knights really let te series down. Noon would beat the first two rush hours alone but Knights really lets it down so as a series Rush Hour wins.

The acting by Jackie in the Police story films is also so much better.

In his native language he has great one liners, my fave Jackie Chan movies are:

Armour of God 1 and 2
Police Story Trilogy
Project A
Wheels on Meals
The Young Master
Drunken Master 1 and 2
