Runes of magic cash shop question... if i choose to grind instead of buying items.?

i've been interested in playing runes of magic. cash shops have scared me away in the past, i don't have much money. is it possible to grind out what i would need to be comparable to higher lvl people that buy from the cash shop? if so, how long would it take to get decent or good equipment at a high lvl? thanks for any help you can provide, i appreciate it!
-= Also, if you know of any f2p mmo that don't require a cash shop to advance pve and pvp wise let me know please
again, i'm not a tight wad lol... just a little short on funds atm
