Rune Factory 1 or Rune Factory 2?

I was a fan of the harvest moon series, but I'm beginning to find it a little dull. Rune Factory introduces combat, as I'm a fan of Zelda I think I'd enjoy it. I also like the courtship aspect.
Which is the better game? I'll probably end up playing both eventually, but for now just the one. I want the game for DS, which is why I didn't include Rune Factory Frontier, though that looks pretty good too.

Which in your opinion is the better game?

If you'll be eventually purchasing all of them, start at the beginning.

I started with Rune Factory and loved it, I tried to play RF2, but never really got into it, see as how I have a lot of games to play, but it still looks damned good.

I'm a long time Harvest Moon fan, and I've tried to follow it through as best I can, starting from the early SNES/GBC titles, moving up to now with Harvest Moon on the PS2/DS and Rune Factory.

I try to play them in order so as to get the maximum out of them, (since each progresses from the first, not so much story-wise but with added features and updated graphics etc.) I suggest you do the same as well.

They all were very good in their own ways.. I liked RF2 better then 1 though.. And I liked RF Frontier for the Wii the best for sure! But I'm glad I played them all.. I'm sure you will enjoy whichever one you choose. They are amazing games!
