I have a 2000 Ford Contour with 48,000 miles on it. I bought it about a year and a half ago and have had to have a lot of work done on it, including a new (rebuilt) transmission soon after I bought it, completed at a reputable transmission shop that my mechanic recommended. I also had to have the idle control motor (?) replaced after some serious idling issues. It has run fine for the past year or so. I use it mostly to drive 5 miles to work and back and to run errands locally. For the past few months, the RPMs go all over the place, especially when it is warmed up, but it's not actually speeding up. I can feel a tiny bit of pressure on the gas pedal, going up and down. I can't tell if the transmission is shifting or not when this happens. On the way home today, it started "bucking," when I started from a stop. There is no "check engine" light, or anything else lighting up when this happens. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, other than it seems to be worse when the car is warmed up. I know this car sounds like a lemon, the low miles are certainly suspect, but I went after the used car dealer to pay for the transmission, and they did so. I can't afford a new car now, I just want some idea of what it is. The transmission is still under warranty. Any ideas?
