Router used as modem for Verizon?

Over the past day, my internet had not been working. I contacted Verizon and a customer represented helped me get my internet fixed. My modem still has its internet light off and I had to make a new password and username on my router. I have a netgear router and my question is: is my router doubling as a modem? Answers appreciated
