roughly how much wold a jeep engine rebuild cost?

I have a 1987 jeep CJ7 its leaking a lot of oil out of the back where the trans hooks up and around the head. also when I pull off the PCV valve smoke will start puffing out like the engine is steam powered of something. I also don't get a lot of power anymore so I'm guessing it time to get the engine rebuilt.

how much should I expect to pay for a good rebuild?

do you think it would be cheaper to buy a new engine ?
