Okay so I wanted to enlist in the USAF after high school but my dad "highly recommended" that I do not enlist but go to college first than decide if I want to join. My dad was in the Air Force and now he is in the Air Guard.
I figured I should just go to college and get into a ROTC program. I would get to experience college life and also if I join the military I would go in as an officer. I'm not sure about ROTC because if I was an enlisted guy I would have a hard time taking orders from some punk college kid who doesnt know anything about the military.
Also my parents wont be able to pay for my college so I have to look for scholarships. I play sports, I have a 4.0 gpa and I do volunteer work for my church so that might help. Will ROTC pay for my college? I know about the full on ROTC scholarship, but you HAVE to join the military after college. Is there a way to get a a partial scholarship for ROTC without having a full-commitment to joining the service?
Sorry for the long explanation, I'm only a 10th grader but my dream is to be the first kid in my family's generation to go to college and actually graduate. Preparation is the key to success right?....so I'm starting early...
