Rooting the T-Mobile myTouch 3g (HTC Magic) 1.6 Donut questions?

Hello I have a TON of questions. The first one is can somebody give me a guide on how to root my T-Mobile myTouch 3g? What exactly will rooting it do? Can I ruin my phone while doing it? Will my warranty be voided, and if so is there a way to make it look like i never rooted it? Will it make it faster? and would you recommend it?
