Ronnie from Jersey shore going to jail?

When the show aired they showed parts of it when he beat that guy up...an he went to jail..now all of a sudden he's facing 5 years in prison for something that happened two years ago...now can they convict him twice for that...I kno its going in front of the grand jury since they found him guilty...I'm just confused ...unless that Steve guy wants more then what. Ronnie got...but since Ronnie did go to jail shouldn't he already have went to court etc...unless the case wasn't closed..I'm just curious
