Rockets in movies defy the laws of motion.

Just watched a movie called Meteor, in which the Americans and Russians join forces to destroy a massive meteor that is heading for earth, by using orbital missile platforms that they shouldn't even have had.

Anyway, I two things I noticed:-

Firstly, when the rocket engines failed on a couple of them, instead of continuing in a straight lie, in accordance with Newton's 1st law of motion, they began to fall downward, even though there is no "down" in outer space.

Secondly, despite travelling through a vacuum, both the missiles and the meteor made considerable noise.
