Robin Hood question

Just seen the TV ad for themes Robin Hood and it looks really quite good . Only thing bothering me is that I'm sure that I saw something a while back that said they were going to portray Robin as a bumbling idiot ???

Any comments ?

i have'nt heard that before, first thing i heard about the new robin hood was that robin was going to be the bad guy and the sheriff the good guy, looks like they have scraped that idea.

I went to see a preview screening of this, this morning and it is actually a really good film, it's about Robin before he became Robin Hodd, so don't expect a like for like remake of the Prince of Thieves! Russell Crowe is good but his accent is interesting, Cate Blanchett is fab. The role of the Sherif is very minor and not really notworthy.

Crowe has criticised previous film versions of Robin Hood as unrealistic. Ah yes, because as we all know Robin Hood was a 45-year-old New Zealander!

Not necessarily. Roger Godberd, a notorious outlaw from Swannington in Leicestershire lead a rebellion in 1270/71, actually in Sherwood Forest, against the authorities almost certainly over the treatment of his lord Robert de Ferrers in July 1269. From other recorRAB, Godberd was probably born c 1230-1235 so would have possibly been 41 years old in 1271. Simon de Montfort who led the baronial rebellion in 1265 was born in 1209 so would have been 56 years old. He was an Earl given but men were still outlaws into their forties in the medieval age.

I much preferred the original 'Nottingham' idea where the focus was going to be on the Sheriff and how he was either going to work with Robin or actually BE Hood as well. That would have been worth making because it's different. You can't beat Prince of Thieves for a fun Robin Hood film, i.e. the kind of Robin Hood film people want to see. What Ridley Scott has made is, I reckon, too gritty for most people to be interested in.

Btw they cut down the Sheriff's role because this Robin Hood doesn't really get to the point in the story where it's Robin vs. Sheriff. Russell Crowe said there's the possibility of doing a sequel which would be that story. Though again WHY retell it for the umpteenth time??

Errol Flynn must be turning in his grave, they really do need to get a good casting director when making Robin Hood films.

I mean Kevin Costner, enjoyable movie but couldn't for a moment believe he was Robin Hood.

I take it you are being sarcastic? Errol Flynn, the Australian, turning in his grave? :D

See what you mean though, at least Flynn was dashing and debonair and all that. Only trouble is, can't see the man behind the legend being all Flynn like.

i'm kinda looking forward to this, the wigley scott and crowe pairing has produced very good results before plus crowe is good in this type of role, he might be older but he looks the part going by the trailers.

I'm not a robin hood nut personally so i dont really care about the accuracy of events etc. if its as good fun as gladiator i'll be happy, dont think it should be taken too seriously
