Roaming @ Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport?? Phone network settings?

This was interesting the other day. Just after the down escalators at the Meet & Greet/Baggage Claim area in Terminal 4, I'm either roaming or getting no service. I talked to a friend that's on Sprint and he said he's roaming in that area as well. Is this happening to anyone else?

I'm a little confused as to what network I should have my phone set to. It's a flashed Motorola Q9C. Everything works fine just for this glitch discovered the other day. Right now, it's set to automatic A. I went to Houston, Texas last week and got home service & roamed as well.

What should I set my phone to while in the local calling area?
I have 3 setting choices...

Automatic A
Automatic B
Home Only

Thanks!

In Phoenix, Verizon is B and Alltel (now belongs to Verizon) is A. So in this case it didn't matter, and your preferred roaming list trumps that setting anyway. You were probably roaming on Verizon, since the other poster said Sprint has a weak signal there.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. Even walking outside, I'm still roaming for a few minutes sometimes or no service. I forgot to mention that this phone is on CricKet $50 plan. Since I used most of my 30 roaming minutes while in Houston, Texas and the rest here, when I tried to dial someone, I just got a busy signal lol This is not cool to find out all of a sudden when you gotta Meet & Greet clients and then call their car up for them or they need to get a hold of you. ugggghhhh

So what would be your recommendation as to what network I should put my phone on while in my local Phoenix market? If I set it to Home Only and try it again, I suppose if I don't get a signal, I won't roam like that, and the phone won't work, right? Is Automatic B any better than Automatic A?

Thanks!

I'm surprised that they still make phones with an auto A and auto B setting any more, because the PRL selects the system. The phone defaults to Auto A & B when there's nothing in the PRL for the city you're currently in. You can try playing the with those settings, but I don't think it's going to make any difference. CDMA coverage in Phoenix is by Verizon (Alltel), Sprint and Cricket. If Cricket & Sprint don't have coverage where you happen to be, you're going to roam onto Verizon (in Phoenix). You might want to consider the unlimited text & talk plan from Page Plus.... you get Verizon coverage for $40.... I hear it's going to $45 by the end of the month.
