Roaming charge changes to Verizon

Thanks to the government and the pressure that Verizon Wireless has to deal with, Verizon Wireless has sent up a proposal for a change to the current laws regarding roaming. As the law stands at this moment, carriers are not required to provide roaming services to competing companies that own spectrum in a given market that have not yet built a network there. Smaller carriers are complaining that this will greatly affect and hurt their customers saying they won't have the ability to roam in those regions, therefore leaving them in the dark where service is concerned. Verizon says it will support legislation that requires it to provide roaming services in this type of circumstance, provided the requirement lasts no longer than two years. Several senators will be receiving this letter.

Verizon is most likely doing this because the government is looking into wireless carriers more closely now. The laws that used to govern Monopoly's and profit margins are now starting to being enforced more. So Verizon isn't being nice; they are doing this before they are forced to by the government.
