Roadking rear rim.

I have a 2001 Roadking classic and I am wondering if anybody has thought of putting an aluminium mag rim on the rear, you really won't see it due to the saddle bags, but I am sick and tired of breaking spokes on my rear rim . This is my second rim, I still have my stock rim in my garage with about 5 broken spokes and the rim thats on the bike now has 6.When I bought my second rim I even bought a different brand this one is supposed to be tubeless but you know how that goes I had to put air in it every 2 weeks so I went ahead and put a tube in it which is fine now except for the broken spokes.I have looked on e-bay for rims but there is not a lot for the 2000-2002 roadkings, I know it has a 3/4" rear axle and the newer ones have a 1" rear but I should be able to change the bearings I think. Please let me know if anybody has changed their rims for customs and if they want to get rid of their rear rim .
Thanks in advance for any help.

why are you braking spokes ? I have an 01 Electra Glide Classic and ran the factory spoke rims for 8 years never broke a spoke, switched to the DNA Mammoth spoke rims without issue either, tubeless spoke rims have a tendency too leak at the valve stem thats why you were probably having to add air, good luck

I too am curious on the broken spokes. I put Thunderstar rims from the MoCo on my Road King, did both at the same time so they would be matched and I hated the wagon spokes that came on it!!

I dont know why the spokes are breaking I am only 230 lbs and 6"2 thats not that big right .I dont do alot of 2 up riding but a little every now and then. The roads here in Jacksonville FL are not bad.

I can't understand the broken spokes thing either- do you leave your bike out, or is there something that can be slipping at the back end that's busting them? I've ridden spoke wheels forever, and despite some pretty hard bumps, have never come close to breaking one.

Maybe check the shop that's doing the re-spoking work for you, try someplace different next time and see if that solves the problem?

Good luck with it.

when i bought my 98 flhr, the first thing i did was lower it and put on spoke wheels. i too broke spokes many times. i'm 6 ft and over 300 pounds. i found that i had mine lowered too much. spokes would break when i was loaded and on the road. put my stock mags back on and got the back end up some. never had any problems after that.

I found a used mag at a place in Ocala FL for $150 in good shape and I put it on myself, the place is called H&B cycle and I will tell you one thing if he aint got it nobody does, this guy has a warehouse about 100 yards long and 3 other smaller buildings full of Harley parts. If you are looking for something check him out.

Mine is an 05, but I put an 18 inch PM Gasser on the front and to save a ton of money, put a chrome Fatboy wheel on the rear. You can't see much of it, so it looks fine.
