okay, I know most of you have put alot of track miles on the 1098 however has anyone been on a road trip with the 1098. I have ridden my bike all day on different roads but did alot stops not a trip.

I did 350 miles the other day with all but the last 50 in twisties. Honestly, after screwing around on the fwy at the end of the day my throttle hand was pretty uncomfortable. I also have a BMW K12S that I've done road trips on and it is plush by comparison. With the gas mileage on the 1098 and the vibration...I wouldn't be motivated to try long hwy distance with it. It's good at a lot of things but I don't think touring is it's strength!

I've done more than a few trips on the 1098. In fact just got back with a 500 miler last night from the AHRMA races at Miller Motorsports Park. Most miles in one day was a bit over 700 from Torey, UT back to McCall, ID with the last 200 miles in a torrential downpour through Boise and the Payette River Canyon. The mileage sucks and you get to know gas stations intimately but beyond that the bike is fine. Engine is as smooth as silk at speed.... so Buckeye, if you have vibration problems you are either in the wrong gear or you have engine issues.

I Rode Mine To Jacksonville, Fla. About Three Months, About 1,200 Miles.
The Bike Was Great On @ Off The Interstate. I Went Through The Moutains
Through 129 Deals Gap Way.

But The Bad News Is When I Got Back I Went Back Up To The Gap And Hit Tree
@ Total My Bike. I Could Not Find A Nother New One @ Bought A 08 Mv 312r.

But As Of About Three Weeks Ago I've Been Trying To Trade For A Black 1098s. Haveing A Little Trouble Finding A Dealer Willing To Trade.

Sorry to hear about the bike, hope you came out of it ok.
Do me a favor would you? Tell me, going straight from the 1098 to the MV,
how would you compare them? Do you miss the torque of the Ducati compared to the inline?
Is the handling similar? What are the pros and cons of both now that you have ridden them back to back?

Ten-6,
The comparison between my 1098S and my 312R is, I loved my Ducati very much it was the best handling and stopping bike I have ever owned, it only had 2600 miles on the Ducati when I crashed. I only have 1000 miles on the 312R so therefore, I am not completely used to it yet, but I can tell you this I can defenatley fell that it is heavier at low speeds. I can barely touch the ground with my left toe, and I thought my 1098 was high in the saddle. The rear brakes on the MV is total shit. I'm not the real one to ask because I haven't gotten to ride it as much as my Ducati because it has been in the shop for four weeks now. It has an overheating problem that I have spent about 3000.00 dollars on myself. I've bought Muzzys aluminum fans, engine ice, water wetter, my own bypass fan switch, rapid bike modulator, titanium mid pipe, new header all in order to cool the engine. I should get it back by the weekend and I will let you know how it preforms.

Thanks 1098S 321R Mike
