Road King Chrome Side Covers

Don't know about the chrome side covers but even Harley puts a chrome finish on plastic parts. I recently bought the HD lisc.plate relocation kit for my Road King and the fender tip trim piece that they ship with the kit appears to be plastic w/ a chrome finish. I love the rest of the components in the kit but I won't be utilizing that part.

the fender tips on the road king classics and road king standards are chrome plated plastics. harleys visor lens for turn signals are also chrome plastic. the side covers used to be fiberglass but it appears they switched to abs plasstic when they made the switch on the saddlebags as well.

I used to own a Suzuki VL800 that had similar side covers that weren't available in chrome for a couple of years following the bike's release. I researched it back then and there is a vacuum plating process but it was pretty expensive. If I remember correctly, there was also a process where the plastic part is plated with copper and then chrome plated. I waited for the chrome factory replacements which cost a fraction of what they would have cost to have plated. Not before I tried every type of chrome paint available, all of which were terrible.
