Road Bikes and What to look for?

I've been training with my girlfriend for several months now to compete, and hopefully beat her, in a yearly triathlon she never stops bragging out. I'm looking for a road bike to use in the race. I have a small budget probably around 150-200 dollars and i'm wondering if that is enough to get a good bike that I can ride for a year or two. Also, if possible, any specific name brands that usually hold up well in that price range? thanks
