Risk of cell phone radiation from headphones when no sim card?

I transferred the sim card from one cell phone to another. Am thinking of using the old phone as an mp3 player but wonder if
long hours of headphone use would send too much RF type radiation through.
Even without the sim card I'm able to call 911. Does anyone know
if this limited call function still connects to the usual cell towers, etc.
