Ripping music to my laptop with Windows Media Player.?

I have been trying to rip music to my laptop from all our old cds. Some work others wont even play. Why is that and what can I do to get them to work. Some are original and some are copies but its happening with both have checked setting and they seem correct.I do not get any error messages just nothing.Thanks
