I am a 54 year old women that needs a right shoulder total shoulder replacement, but 2 Drs. have refused to do the surgery because of my age, another one said he would do it but was very hesitant. He says as long as I am able to get along without pain medication that I should think about not having the surgery. I have learned how to live with it. I am wondering if this could cause muscle tightness in my neck and head especially on my right side. My right ear and eye always hurt. Are there muscles around the eye and ear that can cause this discomfort? I have been to many, many Drs. and most of them are totally puzzeled, they say my shoulder and eye -ear discomfort are not related, I think they are. It seems to get worse when I exercise and also when I am emotionally stimulated. Either sad or happy causes my head to tighten up. I was diagnosed with having Fibromyalgia about 15 years ago. I also have acid reflux. I take Pantoprazole 40 mg for the acid reflux. Amitryptoline 10 mg to help me sleep. I also take the following supplements
Life CoQ10 ubiquinol 50mg 2/day for heart rhythm, Healthy aging formula for joints 4/day, Metagenics Cal Apatite w/magnesium, 3/day cal.600mg, magnes.300mg, Iso D3 w/isoflavones 2000 IU, 2/day, Women's One Daily 1/day
Formula 303 max. strength Natural Relaxant 6/day, Monavie 3 oz./day

Have you ever been checked for TMJ?

I've had problems with my right ear not popping for the last 9 months. After visiting multiple specialists, I finally found out that I have TMJ. The TMJ has caused significant muscle tightness. It has resulted in the muscles tightening and pressing on my eustacian tube. As I've researched TMJ, your eye and ear symptoms are on the list.

I was also diagnosed with myofacial pain and cervicalgia. Basically it is tightness in the face and neck.

I started physcial therapy last month to try to work on loosening my muscles. I've found out through PT that some of my jaw problem is caused by an on-going shoulder problem I have. In my case, I have shoulder subluxations and a shoulder impingement that results in bursitis and tendonitis. I had surgery to shave down bone to make room for the shift when my shoulder subluxes to keep the swelling down, but I still have constant shoulder pain and tightness. The shoulder tightness has resulted in major neck muscle tightness that has traveled up into my jaw muscles as well. My therapist is now working my shoulder, neck and jaw trying to release the muscles. I've also found that my hips are out of alignment a bit that impacts the same muscles and that my first rib needs constant adjustment because it causes more shoulder pain. Until about 2 weeks ago, I had no idea how much my shoulder was connected to other areas.

In my case, I pretty much just have to live with the shoulder pain. My other option is a surgery to tighten my shoulder muscles to hold the rotator cuff in place, but there is a high likelihood I will loose even more ROM and I don't want to go there yet.

I plan on visiting a massage therapist regularly when my PT runs out. He is really good at releasing muscles that are really tight. I'm hoping it will help.

By the way, I had acid reflux so bad that I ended up having surgery a year ago. Medication alone didn't work for me. I'm still on PPI's though.

I wish you well.
