well for one, someone that isn't going to allegedly bypass well-established and reasonable safety procedures just to get something done faster.

safety procedures aren't always about government regulation, you know. hell, a lot of safety procedures aren't required by law but instead are simply best practices endorsed by the companies in order to minimize loss/risk of damage to their equipment.

I've had some dealings with Schlumberger. They are a very classy outfit. Very professional, as far as I've seen.

The BP official wanted workers to replace heavy mud, used to keep the well's pressure down, with lighter seawater to help speed a process that was costing an estimated $750,000 a day and was already running five weeks late

That sounds like someone who should get their ass kicked.

Fuck you. Seriously. "We cut corners because it's hard to drill out here!" is not a valid excuse for blatantly disregarding established safety protocols. I don't like the government any more than you do, but trying to twist this around and blame it on the government instead of BP is fucking idiotic.

If it's true that they ignored standard operating procedure and safety protocols just to try to save a few bucks then THEY DID SOMETHING WRONG. Blame them! Blame the hell out of them!

Conservatives used to believe in corporate responsibility to go along with their freedoms. If they fucked up, they were expected to pay for their fuck up. In exchange, they were given a wide berth of freedom to go about their business free of excessive regulation. Nowadays we have people like you, acting like BP is a victim here of some mean government conspiracy that forced them to drill way out there (not to even get into the "hey, gimme sum gubment cheese!" mentality most corporate executives have these days). Fuck that.

They have procedures to follow when drilling, these procedures apparently weren't followed and this spill resulted. Cause, effect. Responsibility is pretty god damned obvious.

BP just has a flagrant disregard for competence. They did blow up a refinery in Houston a couple of years ago. They have such strict regulations at home that when they are away from home, they act like a college freshman from a strict home - Butt wild.
