Riding to Deals Gap next week

Hi all- thanks again for the sage advice concerning trailering my RK. We are headed to TN next week for several days of riding in the area. I have only clocked about 4,000 miles in the past year and approx 1100 on my RK in the past month. I am concerned whether my level of experience and riding skill will be sufficient to ride the "Tail". Any comments of suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Safe roads to you all. - R

You will b fine...Some say its over rated,Some say it underrated(?)...Im sure you will fit in somewhere..LOL!!!
Best to do it during the week and i would say early in the day...Most the crazies come out on the weekend....There are alot of pull outs so if you feel like taking a break or feel like you are holding folks up pull off..and enjoy the scenery(views) :-)
When you finish you will want to turn around and do it again!!!! But don't, its gods country and you got some BEAUTIFUL riding ahead of you!!!!....
Remember to smile when you are getting your picture taken...and get the guys e-mail addies so you can look at your self lator and see what a really good time you had!!!!......

rode it again in August, great trip. as said before. ride it early in the day and not on a weekend, while you're there, inquire about the "devil's triangle and Moonshiner runs" have a great time and watch out for leo's. They like to hide and wait on the tail..

JUst don't over ride....It's ok to go at your own pace...Speed limit is 35 no matter what anybody says. If you haven't rode the twisties yet you're in for a education...them there hills are nice son...

My 1st time was April. Going back Thursday. But not doing the dragon going to do the cherolal? parkway.
No big deal but if a group gets behind you there are a lot of pulloffs. Got behind a bunch of slow pokes and it gets you pissed. Just think of others that want to fly around there.

Don't forget to look on -- us129, killboy and there is one other site, to see your pics.

Good luck grinding off your footpegs, kick stand and mufflers as I did!

You'll be fine. I only live about 2.5 hours away from the Deals Gap and Cherohala Skyway (be sure to ride the skyway!). Just watch your speed on the dragon (speed limit is 30). Cops galore on weekends. The big issue is all the dam* crotch rockets trying to scrub knee! See the tree of shame and eat eat a burger and buy a t-shirt at store on the NC side. Good luck.

OK, just spent 3 days there. For me the Dragon is over rated, just got the name. For a tourng bike the Cherahala is much more fun, long sweeping turns, just power through them. Rode the moonshiner28 from SC border to Robinsville, it was good but I think going the other direction would be more fun due to water falls and most pull-offs on southbound lane. If you get a chance my recommendation for a road that is way fun is Hwy 23 from Hot Springs to near Maggie Valley. It's called "The rattler" 24 miles and 294 turns. Be sure to stop at Fines Store at the Maggie Valley end and check out the old country decor. Also get you a Rattler shirt and some stickers.
Already planning another run next month. Going to hit the Blue Ridge Pky in NC and ride north up into Virginia, and probably do the New River Gorge then circle back into Ky.
