I just recently purchased and by recently I mean literally 6 hrs ago a rhinocerus iguana. I handled it at the reptile store in which I purchased it. It was fine and seemed to be active and healthy. It was never handled really to begin with but you have to start somewhere.
In any case I took it home and I handled him while going to the store to pick up things for its new tank, while I was holding it it puffed up so much it was like a balloon, and then it became still as a statue. it wriggled about two times and since then he has not moved. I have come to the conclusion that it is dead at this very moment.
But I guess I am asking really? It died just like that? And Why? Was it a defense mechanism (the puffing up, possibly holding of breath and suffocating?) I just want some verification on how this may have occurred.
No rude or immature answers please.
