Retail Theft, in Pa Court Help and Sentience?

my friend was arrested for retail theft x2 in Pa, A Misdemeanor, He is out on $5000 Unsecured Bail, 20 years old with a job...what is he looking at sentience wise..He was never in any prior trouble besides the 2 retail thefts and what can we do in court in try and prevent jail time
it was a $32 Item..
