Resident Evil: Degeneration

I haven't seen a thread for the new Resident evil animated DTV, so I thought I would post one. I'm not sure if it goes here or the anime section.

Anyway, what did everyone think of this DTV?

Well I think we kind of had one in the video games section.

I enjoyed it. It was nice to see a post RE4 story with Leon and Claire. Fun action sequences and some tight animation. The airport crash looked very impressive.

Steve Blum as a whiny kind of guy is strange to hear.

Crispin Freeman is awesome, although also strange to hear as whiny.

And maybe it's been years of RE playing, but I SERIOUSLY hate it when the newbies don't shoot. COME ON!

Do the DVD and Blu-ray have the same extras (RE 5 trailer, etc.) ?

I was going to get the Blu-ray, but for 5 dollars less I'd rather get the DVD pack with the T-Shirt (assuming it's XL)

...Shouldn't this be in the Anime Forum? I mean, it is produced, written, composed, and directed by the Japanese...

But anyways, I'll post my thought on this later. I also have some interesting thought regarding the Japanese dub...

Once again, there was kind of a thread about it in Video Games, but it wasn't like an official RE: Degeneration thread.

I think the Blu-Ray has one original special feature, a text commentary/trivia track that's not on the DVD version. I believe everything else is the same with the extras/special features.

That doesn't count though, its a DVD not a game anyway. This is the talk back thread anyway, not the up coming thread. Any what exactly was covered in the Blu-Ray trivia option?

The Blu-Ray trivia thing is just your typical text commentary track that gives background on the characters and storyline and also the making of the movie. Many DVD's in the past have these types of commentary tracks like the Spider-man movies, the Star Trek movies, Abyss, and other various DVD's.

Debatable, that's why I commented on that in my intro post, if any mod wants to move this to the anime setion, they can be my guest.

Debatable? Not really. It as scripted, directed, composed, animated and produced by the Japanese. However, it is true that the original language is English, but this is was partially because of the fact all the Resident Evil games were released in Japan with English audio. However, there was a Japanese dub produced for this.

In any case, it's important to look at the entire staff listing whenever making a topic whenever you're unsure. Resident Evil itself is a Japanese property, and unlike the Live Action movies, this was for the most part done entirely in Japan, with the exception of the crew going to the United States to record the voice acting for it.

Also, this doesn't reach "Direct to Video" or "Original Video Animation" status, since it was screened and shown among various locations before being released on DVD/Blu-ray here. It should also be noted that this did get a limited theatre run in Japan.

I enjoyed it a lot, but at the same time I was quite mad at it, for I kept wanting to grab my controller and start playing. It was very well done, and while the plot was minimal, it did what it was supposed to and give RE fans the last time we'll ever see Leon and Claire together.

The voice cast for this movie was interesting voice cast, most of them were anime dubbers from LA, but two were from elsewhere Laura Bailey who is from Texas and Alyson Court from Toronto. I wonder if Laura Bailey has moved to LA or something.

It's very possible. Some Funimation people have made the jump to LA, but still do work on Funimation shows such as Travis Willingham and Dameon Clarke.

I know some VA's don't even go out of town to record their parts. Anthony Daniels does all his voice work for Clone Wars from his home in London for example.

Liked that they brought back Mercier as Leon, and Hunnigan from RE4, and I think Claire had the same English VA for all the games and this movie.

Regarding Tricell:

A friend told me that Tricell is essentially the former employees of Urabrella that Leon mentioned early on in this movie. Is that accurate?

Nothing is completely known about Tricell. For the most part, all we known is Wesker is connected to them, as revealed by the RE5 trailer

I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I heard people saying Mercier delivered his lines over the top and cheesy, but I didn't find that to be the case.
The G-Virus creature homage was nice as the movie was a completely RE2 homage.

All in all it was a good RE 4.5.
