Being a Nurse, having worked in the ER and removed hundreds of infected piercing from just about every body part. It was noticed by a few nurses that it didnt matter what you were pierced with the infection rate was the same..
So.. my question.. How many of you who are pierced.. ( I have 4 in one Ear two in the Other. ) Ask your piercer for evidence that using a needle is better than a gun for certain pierces not only for infection rates but also for healing and damage to the cartilage or tissue of the lobe.. How many have asked for scientific research to back this up... Not just well from my experience its better.... The reason I ask is because we are all told the needle casues less Damage to the cartilage but does it... Read the following and tell me what you think

I am Interested beacuse as nurses we use evidenc based practice.. So do Piercers use evidence based practice which can be proven by research. My point is that you cannot tell the damage the needle or the gun does to the cartilage for just looking or feeling the ear... Now remember I am not talking about infection rates which is more sterile...
I am specifically looking at cartilage damage..
BTW I respect Piercers and do know that the great percentage pierce in sterile areas which are more sterile than hospitals.. I am also talking about ears only and only places on the ear which a gun or needle could be used...
Thnak you all for your help and time.. And remember this Dont just say needle is good gun is bad.. I really want to know especially from piercer if they have read reasearch like this ( considering there is so little about) but this is significant.....
HI jade.... the cadavers are or were real people. .. It was an interesting article I though and thats why I asked the question. I just wanted to know where the evidence that the needle casues less damage comes from.. Yes 22 cadavers and to see the same results in all is interesting although ... it did not take into account the skill of the piercer... Pehaps if a professional piercer had pierced the ears and one trained in using the gun would have yeilded different results.
The think about whos infected more .. well I would have to look at that from my own experience I have delt with all age groups under 40. Even a baby. .. ( i dont whole agree with piercing the ears of babies) ..
Hi jade i missed your comment about those who do well . Yes we dont see them .. but my point was that when asked in the ER, mainly becasue we need to know the risks of HIV Hepb+c have subjected themselves to the risks.. I am not saying the risk is from the piercing studios i am relieved when i hear they had the piercings done by a professional.
I welcome your input and am please yout took time to read the article and give an informed anwer!
As for me.. I have been pierced by the gun and a needle.. Both under very sterile conditions.. I found they healed in the same amount of time. But that was just me. As you say yours pierced with a needle heald more quickly....
