I was suffering from lower back pain, and the pain at later stage extending to left leg.
On advice from doctor, I have undergone MRI and the report (summary) is as below:
MRI OF LUrabOSACRAL SPINE SHOWS
1. RELATIVELY NARROW CANAL AT L4 - L5 LEVEL.
2. MILD BULGE OF L4-L5 DISC INDENTING THECAL SAC AND BOTH L5 ROOTS.
Doctor has suggested for physiotherapy and traction.
Do I require to undergo surgery at later stage in case the pain does not subside.

You may need surgery at some point but try the physio first to see if it helps. But if you develop any problems with bladder function(can't go or going suddenly when you don't want to) or bowel function(can't go or can't stop) call your doctor immediately. That neeRAB immediate surgery.

Surgery is a permanent fix and may not relive your pain and may actually cause more pain so it is always a last resort.

good luck.............Jenny

I had 3 lurabar surgeries in 2008 and am scheduled for a 4th, having similar issues with a herniation I would say yes!
