On some cars you have to disconnect the motor mount at the front of the engine, because the belt goes around the mount. If so, use a floor jack with a nice wide flat piece of wood under the oil pan to support the engine, with a little bit of tension on the jack. If the belt is off to the side of the mount, (depends on the engine) that shouldn't be needed. As far as the wrench not turning very far, try pulling the belt off of the Alternator first, before the tensioner pulley. The Alternator pulley is much smaller, and you don't need to move the tensioner as far then. If it's the kind of tensioner that uses a 1/2 inch drive square hole, try using a ratchet instead of a breaker bar.
