I am a novice when it comes to auto repair. Recently, I discovered problems with my Blazer and had an estimate done. I need to replace the rear brakes and the front wheel hub/bearing assemblies. I was quoted en estimate of $1400 for the total repair and after shopping around, that seems to be the standard average for the type of repair. Is this something I could do by myself if I get the parts from a Napa or Auto Zone, get a manual or steps to properly do the repairs, and then go have an alignment done?

yes that would be ur best bet,is to do the job yaself. because 1400 to do those things you mention they are ripping you off big time. That shouldn't be no more then a 100 to do that type of job.
manual 20-30 bucks
breaks 27-37 bucks
hub bearings 9-15 bucks
bearing grease 5-10 bucks
total job time 2 1/2 hours
this type of job is not that bad on a scale of 1-10 it would be a 3
good luck
