Replacing a lost T Mobile Phone?

I lost my t-mobile phone a few weeks ago and I was wondering If I can buy an unlocked phone, buy a sim card from t mobile for 10 dollars and get my old number transferred to it. Our contract is up in a few months. If I do this before the contract is up, will there be any charges?

Yes, you can. Buy the unlocked phone, bring it into a T-Mobile store and ask them to activate it. I've done it before, so there.
